#6 Semantic highlighting, Progress descriptions & more

Dive into this week's Witbits—your growing list of Human-Centered AI concepts that help designers merge human needs with AI capabilities.

👋 Hey designers and innovators,

Dive into this week's Witbits — your growing list of Human-Centered AI concepts that help designers align human needs and AI capabilities.

Semantic highlighting

Embedding models are able to rank data based on meaning, but they can also do this on a spectrum at the level of individual sentences or moments in a video, showing the relevance of selected concepts.

Ordering content along different interpretable dimensions, like style or similarity, makes it navigable on x and y axes facilitating exploration and discovery of relationships between the data.

Progress descriptions

AI actions often take time to complete. To improve user experience, use descriptions of what is happening combined with basic animations that represent different types of actions.

✨ What sparked our curiosity this week

This week, we were inspired by the visionary collaboration between Modem and Mouthwash Studio, exploring the next phase of user interface design through the lens of AI. Their principles for, "General Purpose Interfaces," present an approach where AI agents act as intermediaries, simplifying and unifying our interactions with digital devices. This concept aligns with Apple's recent WWDC announcement of Siri becoming systemwide, highlighting the seamless integration of AI into our daily digital interactions.

See you in a week!
